Solving environmental problems is as urgent as overcoming the pandemic - UN

The UN Climate Summit in Glasgow should encourage Ukraine to move towards increasing its contribution to combating global climate change within the framework of the Paris Agreement.
This was stated by the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, Osnat Lubrani, in her speech at the "Ukraine 30. Ecology" forum, Ukrinform reports.

She noted that the devastating consequences of large-scale floods in western Ukraine showed that climate change directly affects the lives of ordinary Ukrainians. In this context, Lubrani emphasized that solving environmental problems and transitioning to renewable energy sources are as urgent issues as overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There is no vaccine against climate change. It seems to me that the Paris Charter is a very good starting platform for forming a Nationally Determined Contribution from Ukraine. I hope that thanks to the experience we will hear about in Glasgow, there will be a movement towards doing more," Lubrani said.

The UN Coordinator noted that in this sense, Ukraine faces difficult tasks, but "it's time to do all this."

"The UN has vast experience in agriculture, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and we are ready to work even harder to help the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people," Lubrani assured.
