Ukraine set a world record for greening the planet: 4.1 million trees were planted in one day. In total, 110 countries took part in the greening campaign.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The organizer was the global environmental project Greening of the Planet. It also, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the results of the action "1 million trees in 1 day in 100 countries of the world", which took place on April 10, on World Earth Day on April 22.
2 million 145 thousand participants from 110 countries took part in the action. Among them from Ukraine - 559 thousand people. More than 70 foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine have participated or plan to join the initiative.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 5 million 544 trees were planted on this day. Of these, 4 million 124 thousand in Ukraine, and 1.4 million in the world. 184 different types of trees were planted.
Leading countries that organized the largest number of planted trees: Ukraine, Canada, Great Britain, Belarus, Turkey, Moldova, Poland, Indonesia, Tunisia, Montenegro, Kuwait and Singapore.
"It is symbolic that the record was set today, when the whole world celebrates Earth Day. The purpose of this day is to draw everyone's attention to environmental problems and encourage them to stand up for its protection. The main topics of this year's Earth Day are biodiversity restoration, climate change and the fight against the coronavirus pandemic," the agency noted.
