In Cherkasy region, a local resident caused UAH 24 million in environmental damage

A local resident stored toxic substances on a land plot without proper permits.

 

In Cherkasy region, a local resident caused environmental damage amounting to over UAH 24 million. This was reported by the SBU on Wednesday, June 16.

 

In 2020, a resident of Horodyshche entered into an agreement with merchants for the supply of hazardous industrial waste for his own needs. He purchased over 500 tons of cardboard and paper waste for pellet production. He stored toxic substances on a land plot without proper permits. The dump was located on the territory of a former plant, and he stored hazardous waste in the open air.

 

According to experts, the man's actions led to severe consequences of land pollution and damage. Forensic environmental expertise confirmed the amount of millions in damages caused to the state.

 

The man was notified of suspicion under the article on land pollution or damage. The sanction of the article provides for restriction of liberty for a term of two to five years or imprisonment for the same term, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years or without such.

 

We would like to remind you that earlier the modernization of Ukrainian wastewater treatment plants was estimated at 300 billion euros. Modernization of wastewater treatment plants is an expensive process, so Ukraine plans to limit the use of products that are the main pollutants.
