Ukraine's environment suffered 2.2 billion hryvnias in damages in 2020. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management heard a report on the work of the State Environmental Inspectorate, according to the information department of the Verkhovna Rada apparatus.
According to Andriy Malovany, head of the environmental inspectorate, the agency conducted over 30,000 inspections in total.
"It was possible to increase budget revenues from 80.8 to 81.9 million hryvnias. However, according to Andriy Malovany, this is a very insignificant figure compared to the estimated damages, which amounted to 2.2 billion hryvnias in 2020," the report states.
It is noted that almost a third of violations were recorded in waste management and hazardous chemicals, followed by atmospheric emissions in second place, and water pollution in third.
It should be recalled that in the period from March 19 to 25, environmental violations totaling 57 million hryvnias were detected in Ukraine.
