The construction of Kakhovka HPP-2 is environmentally safe and complies with all norms of current legislation.

Recently, some regional online resources in the Kherson region have published information that the construction of Kakhovka HPP-2 may negatively affect the environment and the preservation of historical heritage.

In particular, after reviewing the information at the link https://docudays.ua/2021/events/rights-now/budivnytstvo-kakhovskoi-hes-2-katastrofa-nemynucha regarding the implementation of the project "Construction of Kakhovka HPP-2", Ukrhydroenergo reports.

The assumptions highlighted in the announcement at the above link are untrue, violate the integrity of the company's business reputation, and negatively affect public attitudes towards hydropower in general.

One of the main principles of information relations, enshrined in Article 2 of the Law of Ukraine "On Information", is the principle of reliability and completeness of information, which, according to Ukrhydroenergo, has been violated.

In view of the above, we inform you that the project "Construction of Kakhovka HPP-2" received a positive Environmental Impact Assessment Conclusion in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Environmental Impact Assessment", which states that the planned activity is permissible. This Conclusion is publicly available on the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine at the link: http://eia.menr.gov.ua/uk/case/id-6106.

Taking into account the received Conclusion and the norms of current legislation, Ukrhydroenergo has taken into account the possible impact on flora and fauna. According to the provided Conclusion, the project is safe for the environment and complies with all norms of current legislation.

According to the conducted studies and the EIA Report, as well as the Conclusion provided by the central executive body that ensures the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of environmental protection - the Ministry of Environment, a local impact on this territory is predicted, which in the medium and long term will not lead to a reduction in the population of protected species.

In addition, despite the fact that the Law "On the Emerald Network" has not yet been approved, Ukrhydroenergo does not intend to violate it, even under such circumstances, and will definitely take it into account during the construction of Kakhovka HPP-2 (this was covered in the EIA report).

We also inform you that in order to preserve the historical heritage, namely: the architectural monument of national importance, the Vitovt Tower (observation tower), changes were made to the project, according to which the construction will be shifted by 50 meters, so the historical monument will not be affected by the construction and will be preserved for future generations.

In accordance with the above, we believe that the assumptions on the website of the NGO "Docudays" are biased and do not correspond to reality, therefore Ukrhydroenergo calls for changing the evaluative judgments published on the website of the NGO "Docudays" and refraining from unsubstantiated claims in the future.

Otherwise, Ukrhydroenergo will respond within the legal framework to actions aimed at lowering prestige, undermining trust in the company's activities, which leads to a negative public attitude, using methods provided by the norms of current legislation to protect its rights and interests.
