Denys Shmyhal announced environmental changes in Ukraine's economy in the next 10 years.

The government will transform the economy towards carbon-neutral development within the framework of the Paris Agreement, which will bring Ukraine closer to the European Green Deal and to the implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting to discuss the preparation of Ukraine's second Nationally Determined Contribution to the Paris Charter.

"The Government of Ukraine is making every effort for the gradual transformation of the national economy towards carbon-neutral development. The commitments outlined in the second Nationally Determined Contribution will set the trajectory for the development of Ukraine's economy for at least 10 years," Shmyhal noted.

As the Prime Minister emphasized, the development and submission of Ukraine's Nationally Determined Contribution is a mandatory requirement of the Paris Agreement. The second NDC, according to him, must be submitted by Ukraine to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and must contain goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.

For his part, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Roman Abramovsky emphasized that the directions of economic development must be balanced.

"Ukraine is an active participant in the global fight against climate change and adaptation to it. Therefore, today our main task is that the final second NDC in the Paris Charter meets the long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality no later than 2060, but at the same time is realistic. The vectors of development of the sectors of the Ukrainian economy must be economically and environmentally balanced," Abramovsky noted.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government shares the EU's vision of the need to increase the ambition of climate goals and strengthen the decarbonization of the economic system. "Environmental transformations in Ukraine are an integral condition for effective environmental transformations in Europe," he noted.
