This year, Ukraine plans to introduce new state environmental control. This will help prevent excessive waste generation.
This was reported by the press service of the "Servant of the People" party.
Oleh Bondarenko, head of the environmental committee of the Verkhovna Rada, stated that the new state environmental control is provided for in bill No. 3091.
"This concerns both the prevention of excessive waste generation and the failure of industry to comply with the requirements they have undertaken. The bill changes the grounds and procedure for inspections, and on the other hand, the activities of the State Environmental Inspectorate become as transparent as possible at the legislative level to prevent corruption, of which the SEI is so often accused," the statement said.
It is planned to transfer functions inherent in other central authorities - the Forest Agency, the Fish Agency, the State Geological Survey - to the State Environmental Inspectorate.
Currently, the SEI does not have sufficient powers to establish the fact of pollution and move towards bringing to justice.
"That is why we are giving the State Environmental Inspectorate new powers to conduct inspections, to enter enterprises, to bring to justice and to stop the activities of the polluter," the MP noted.
He also announced the introduction of an integrated automated system "Environmental Inspector", which will include inspection plans, action plans and reports. The system will be open and publicly accessible.
Earlier, the Rada announced that Ukraine would introduce a waste management system. This should happen by the end of this year.
As RBC-Ukraine wrote, earlier Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that in order to solve the waste problem in Ukraine, it is necessary to update the legislation.
