The State Environmental Inspectorate explained how they will promptly respond to sea pollution

A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine and the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine, which will allow for a quicker response to facts of marine pollution. This was reported by the Head of the State Environmental Inspectorate Andriy Malyovany.

"Let me remind you that after the liquidation of the Crimean-Black Sea and Azov districts of the SEI, the authority to record violations in the marine area passed to the AMPU. The signing of the Memorandum with the AMPU is an important step towards establishing operational communication and, as a result, ensuring environmental safety in the marine area," Andriy Malyovany noted.

The official added that cooperation will include the following areas:

- providing operational information regarding detected facts of discharge of pollutants by vessels within the water area of the seaport;

- assistance to SEI inspectors in surveying the port water area at the site of pollution;

- regular sampling and analysis of background water quality indicators in the water area;

- carrying out works and measures to localize the consequences of pollution;

- conducting joint activities on problematic issues arising during inspections within the water area of the seaport.
