In Ukraine, they want to increase the environmental tax several times over.

According to the "anti-Akhmetov" bill, which amends the Tax Code, it is also planned to increase the environmental tax – the carbon emissions tax will be tripled.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Finance.

The eco-tax, the agency reminds, is a mandatory payment made on the actual volumes of various emissions, discharges, and waste disposal into the environment.

Currently, the environmental tax rate on CO2 emissions in Ukraine is one of the lowest in the world. For comparison, Poland is cited as an example, which sets the minimum rate in Europe at 1 euro/ton, while in our country it is only 10 UAH per ton.

Bill No. 5600 plans to triple the rate, almost to the Polish level – to 30 UAH/ton. These changes are expected to generate an additional 2.1 billion UAH.

The environmental tax rate for discharges of pollutants into water bodies will also increase by 1.6 times. Subsequently, it will gradually increase by 8 times by 2029. The additional revenue for the state and local budgets is 100 million UAH.

In addition, it is planned to triple the waste tax for mining enterprises: from 0.49 UAH to 1.5 UAH/ton. The additional revenue is 300 million UAH.

The environmental tax, with the exception of the tax on radioactive waste, is divided as follows: the state's share is 45%, and local authorities' share is 55%.
