Every year in autumn, people start cleaning up garbage, fallen leaves, and dry grass from household and yard areas and burning it. But they forget that this harms human health and the environment - air and water are polluted, and the soil cover is damaged!
Why shouldn't dry vegetation be burned?
Air pollution. Negative impact on human health - respiratory diseases, allergies, increased risk of cancer.
Reduced soil fertility. The litter of dry grass protects the soil from freezing in winter months and from dangerous compaction in summer. Therefore, arson destroys the organic matter that ensures the porosity, looseness of the soil, its moisture capacity, and its ability to retain elements of mineral plant nutrition in forms from which they can be quickly released into the soil solution.
Climate change. Remember that fires are additional emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere!
Animals are at risk of extinction. Hares, hedgehogs, amphibians, reptiles, and rodents suffer first from fires, and then from lack of food. Their clutches and nests are destroyed.
Disappearance of certain plant species. Instead of diverse grasses, weeds grow.
This smoke contains: heavy metals, carbon monoxide, dust, nitrogen oxides, carcinogenic compounds!
We remind you that this spring the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine to Preserve the Environment Regarding Strengthening Responsibility for Actions Aimed at Air Pollution and Destruction or Damage to Plant World Objects", which provides for increased responsibility for air pollution and destruction or damage to plant world objects.
Increased administrative responsibility for violating fire safety requirements in forests, unauthorized burning of vegetation or its remains, and criminal responsibility for air pollution, destruction or damage to plant world objects are provided.
