In the last five years, a significant increase in violations of environmental legislation has been recorded.
The State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine intends to create a Center for recording environmental violations using aerospace imagery for more prompt and effective counteraction to violations of environmental legislation.
This was reported by the press service of the National Environmental Council of Ukraine.
"Understanding all the challenges that environmental protection bodies face today, continuing the reforms that have begun, the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine, together with the Academy of Postgraduate Education under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, intends to create a Center for recording environmental violations using aerospace imagery for more prompt and effective counteraction to violations of environmental legislation," the statement said.
It is noted that state environmental protection bodies have recorded a significant increase in violations of environmental legislation in the last five years. Natural resources are used irrationally, illegal sand and gravel quarries appear, forests are cut down, and poaching destroys aquatic living resources.
"All this leads to the destruction of entire ecosystems. Unthoughtful human activity has caused climate change processes that risk becoming irreversible. Global warming in our country has shifted climatic zones by 250 kilometers. The last four years have seen catastrophic low water levels, rivers are filled no more than 70% of the norm, which led to desertification of territories," the press service noted.
It is reported that this primarily affected the southern regions: Mykolaiv, Kherson, Odesa.
Earlier, the head of the State Environmental Inspectorate Andriy Malyovany stated that the reform of the State Environmental Inspectorate, namely the creation of a new territorial network of the agency, personnel changes and an increase in fines, will be completed by the end of the year.
